THE NORTH SHORE

Where the Oahu Returns to the Wild

Legendary surf breaks, ancient valleys, shrimp trucks, and the kind of slow-burn magic that makes you miss your flight home on purpose.

The North Shore is a stretch of coastline that earned its global reputation honestly — as home to the world's most famous surf competitions, secret jungle hikes, roadside poke stands, and an untamed green interior that tourists on package tours never find.

This is the Oahu that stays with you.

Just 45 minutes north, the island shifts entirely. The crowds thin out, the waves get serious, and the pace of life drops to something closer to the rhythm of the tides.

WHAT'S UP HERE

Seven miles of unforgettable

This is the Oahu that stays with you.

WORLD-FAMOUS SURF

Bonzai Pipeline

EHUKAI BEACH PARK

The most photographed wave in the world breaks over a shallow coral reef just offshore. From November through February, watch pros charge barrels up to 20 feet face — and yes, spectators are welcome right on the sand.

WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS

Shark's Cove

KAMEHAMEHA HWY

A favorite gathering place for Hawaii’s beloved honu, Shark’s Cove offers some of the island’s most memorable wildlife encounters. Here, green sea turtles glide through turquoise water before coming ashore to rest, creating a front-row view of one of nature’s most graceful rituals.

CULTURE + NATURE

Waimea Valley

WAIMEA, HALEIWA

An 1,875-acre botanical garden and cultural heritage site leading to a 45-foot waterfall you can actually swim under. One of the few places on Oahu where you walk through thousands of years of Hawaiian history in one afternoon.

LEGENDARY LOCAL FOOD

Shrimp Trucks

KAHUKU, ALONG HWY 83

Giovanni's, Romy's, Fumi's — these roadside shrimp trucks have achieved legendary status. Butter-garlic shrimp piled on rice, eaten at a picnic table, possibly the best $15 meal in all of Hawaii. Mandatory stop.

SURF TOWN CULTURE

Haleiwa Town

HISTORIC NORTH SHORE HUB

The charming surf town at the gateway to the North Shore is lined with surf shops, art galleries, shave ice stands, and restaurants. Haleiwa has kept its low-key soul while becoming one of Oahu's most beloved destinations.

WILDERNESS ADVENTURES

World-class Ziplines

NORTH SHORE MOUNTAINS

Fly above the jungle canopy and across the valleys of the North Shore's rugged interior — the views from above are something you can't get any other way. Ocean on one side, mountains on the other. This is your bird's-eye Hawaii.

"If you haven't been to the North Shore, you haven't seen the real Oahu."

Getting here is half the fun

Getting here is half the fun

Kamehameha Highway — Hwy 83 — is one of the most scenic coastal drives in all of America. Hugging the windward shore before curving north along the surf coast, it delivers mountain walls on one side and the open Pacific on the other. Don't rush it. Stop at Waimea Bay. Pull over for the turtles. The North Shore starts the moment you turn north.
